Course Description
This is an introductory level course designed to enable students to identify dangerous goods incidents and to properly respond to hazardous materials situations under the guidelines of Hazardous Materials Operations.
Learning Outcomes
- To enable students to recognize the hazards associated with hazardous materials goods incidents.
- To teach students to respond to hazardous materials goods incidents.
- To enable students to use relevant the Emergency Response Guide book.

Prerequisites
- High School Graduation;
- Hazardous Materials Awareness Note:
- NFPA 472 Operations Level Certification Testing Pre-Requisites (as outlined by Fire and Emergency Services NL):
- NFPA 472, Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents, 2008 Edition, Awareness Level
Notes
Prerequisites should be provided to administration prior to course start date but students can bring them along the morning of registration.
Please be advised that the daily course schedules are subject to change and all participants should be prepared for course deliveries outside normal business hours (i.e. evenings and weekends). You will be notified if any such change is necessary. In the event of inclement weather, students should visit www.mi.mun.ca for important announcements regarding class cancellations and rescheduling. Announcements regarding class cancellations will also be on local radio stations.
If you are eligible to receive a T2202A for tax purposes, they will be available on Short Course Registration in February of the following year. Students are advised to log into your Destiny account in order to print a copy of your T2202A form.
