202401 - Basic Rescue and Rappelling Procedures
Course Description
This is an basic level course designed to enable the trainee to understand the theoretical aspects of basic rappelling/rescue and to demonstrate the practical aspects of rappelling and rescue.
Learning Outcomes
- To help students understand the advantages and limitations of protective equipment.
- To help students identify and tie the knots used in basic rescue.
- To provide students with the knowledge to select and use rope related equipment used in basic rescue.
- To help students perform different basic rescue techniques.

Please be advised that the daily course schedules are subject to change and all participants should be prepared for course deliveries outside normal business hours (i.e. evenings and weekends). You will be notified if any such change is necessary. In the event of inclement weather, students should visit www.mi.mun.ca for important announcements regarding class cancellations and rescheduling. Announcements regarding class cancellations will also be on local radio stations.
If you are eligible to receive a T2202A for tax purposes, they will be available on Short Course Registration in February of the following year. Students are advised to log into your Destiny account in order to print a copy of your T2202A form.
