200817 - Firefighter - Level II
Course Description
This course is designed to provide the student with the theoretical and practical training to function as an integral member of a firefighting team. It meets and/or exceeds National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Professional Standards.
Learning Outcomes
- Enable students to effectively perform fire suppression activities for Class A, structural, hydrocarbon, motor vehicle, and other various types of fires.
- Enable students to identify and use all types of firefighting tools, appliances, and protective equipment.
- Enable students to identify and distinguish among the different types of building construction and methods of fire control.

Prerequisites
- High School Graduation;
- Firefighter - Level II;
- Marine Institute approved medical clearance
- NOTE: NFPA 1001 Level II Certification Pre-Requisites (As outlined by Fire and Emergency Services NL):
- Certification to NFPA 1001, Firefighter I, 2008 Edition
- NOTE: Firefighters who are not certified to 2008 Edition must be certified to either; certification to NFPA 472, Hazardous Materials – Operational Level Chapter 5 Core Competencies Chapter 6.2 Personal Protective Equipment Chapter 6.6 Product Control or certification prior to May 1, 2009 to NFPA 472, Hazardous Materials – Operational Level
- Current Standard CPR/1st Aid, Medical Consent and Vehicle Extrication Course

Copy of valid Transport Canada Seafarer's medical is required for this training. Prerequisites should be provided to administration prior to course start date but students can bring the prerequisites along the morning of registration. (Should you have a valid medical from another jurisdiction, please contact administration to have the medical validated for training.) To comply with Provincial OH&S legislation all students participating in this course to be clean shaven and must provide a fit test certificate (quantitative) for use of Scott AV 3000 style face piece. Fit testing for this training can be completed on site. Please note that there is a fee associated for this service of $65 plus tax.

Please be advised that the daily course schedules are subject to change and all participants should be prepared for course deliveries outside normal business hours (i.e. evenings and weekends). You will be notified if any such change is necessary. In the event of inclement weather, students should visit www.mi.mun.ca for important announcements regarding class cancellations and rescheduling. Announcements regarding class cancellations will also be on local radio stations.
If you are eligible to receive a T2202A for tax purposes, they will be available on Short Course Registration in February of the following year. Students are advised to log into your Destiny account in order to print a copy of your T2202A form.
