200306 - Fire Officer - Level II
Course Description
This course is based upon NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications - Chapter 5. This course is designed for the fire officer who is ready to assume more of a leadership role by moving into the middle management level of his/her department. This course expands on the knowledge base attained in Fire Officer I by revisiting some of the same subjects and adding additional material including management, government structure and department budget planning and management.
Learning Outcomes
This course enables students to:
- Initiate actions to maximize member performance and/or correct unacceptable performance.
- Evaluate the job performance of assigned members.
- Develop a policy or procedure.
- Develop a project or divisional budget.
- Describe the purchasing process, including soliciting and awarding bids.
- Prepare a news release.
- Prepare a concise report for transmittal to a supervisor.
- Determine the point of origin and preliminary cause of a fire.
- Produce operational plans.
- Develop and conduct a post-incident analysis.
- Analyze a member’s accident, injury, or health exposure history.
- Create a professional development plan.
- Explain the benefits of relationships with external agencies.
- Develop a plan to accomplish organizational change.
- Develop a written report identifying major causes of service demands across various planning areas.

Prerequisites should be provided to administration prior to course start date but students can bring the prerequisites along the morning of registration.
If you are eligible to receive a T2202A for tax purposes, they will be available on Short Course Registration in February of the following year. Students are advised to log into your Destiny account in order to print a copy of your T2202A form.
