203407 - Basic Offensive Firefighting
Course Description
The Basic Offensive Firefighting course builds on the knowledge and skill set introduced to the student during the Basic Defensive Firefighting course. The course covers more advanced firefighting topics and introduces the student to offensive firefighting techniques. The course must be completed before firefighters are allowed to perform field operations for their fire department.
Learning Outcomes
- Enable students to understand advanced principles of fire science and behaviour.
- Enable students to operate and use all types of tools, appliances, and protective equipment associated with offensive firefighting operations and fire control.
- Enable students to recognize potential health and safety hazards associated with offensive firefighting operations.
- Enable students to conduct offensive fire attacks.
- Enable students to perform ventilation operations for offensive firefighting operations.

Prerequisites should be provided to administration prior to course start date but students can bring the prerequisites along the morning of registration.

Please be advised that the daily course schedules are subject to change and all participants should be prepared for course deliveries outside normal business hours (i.e. evenings and weekends). You will be notified if any such change is necessary. In the event of inclement weather, students should visit www.mi.mun.ca for important announcements regarding class cancellations and rescheduling. Announcements regarding class cancellations will also be on local radio stations.
If you are eligible to receive a T2202A for tax purposes, they will be available on Short Course Registration in February of the following year. Students are advised to log into your Destiny account in order to print a copy of your T2202A form.

To comply with Provincial OH&S legislation all students participating in this course to be clean shaven and must provide a fit test certificate (quantitative) for use of Scott AV 3000 style face piece. Fit testing for this training can be completed on site. Please note that there is a fee associated for this service of $65 plus tax.Students are required to hold a valid Basic Defensive Firefighting certificate to participate in this course.<
