202200 - Basic Firefighting

Course Description

This basic level course is designed to provide the firefighter with the practical knowledge to function in a fire service as an integral member of a firefighting team while under close supervision.

Learning Outcomes

• To enable students to practice all types of fire behavior situations.
• To enable students to operate and use all types of tools, appliances, and protective equipment.
• To enable students to demonstrate all methods of fire control.
• To enable students to recognize his/her prevention and safety procedures.

To comply with Provincial OH&S legislation all students participating in this course are required to be clean shaven and must provide a fit test certificate (quantitative) for use of Scott AV 3000 style face piece. Fit testing for this training can be completed on site. Please note that there is a fee associated for this service of $65 plus tax.

Please be advised that the daily course schedules are subject to change and all participants should be prepared for course deliveries outside normal business hours (i.e. evenings and weekends). You will be notified if any such change is necessary. In the event of inclement weather, students should visit www.mi.mun.ca for important announcements regarding class cancellations and rescheduling. Announcements regarding class cancellations will also be on local radio stations.

If you are eligible to receive a T2202A for tax purposes, they will be available on Short Course Registration in February of the following year. Students are advised to log into your Destiny account in order to print a copy of your T2202A form.
