Course Description
This course is designed to provide personnel with the theoretical knowledge required to safely and effectively assist in the rescue of victims from shore only.
Learning Outcomes
To enable the student to:
- Assess water and ice conditions as they relate to rescue operations on ice surfaces.
- Understand the problems unprotected victims may encounter in ice related situations.
- Properly select personal protective equipment available to rescuers in ice-related situations.
- Identify the factors, rationale and influences leading to a rescue versus recovery decision.
- Identify hazards and safety concerns for all ice rescue missions.

Please be advised that the daily course schedules are subject to change and all participants should be prepared for course deliveries outside normal business hours (i.e. evenings and weekends). You will be notified if any such change is necessary. In the event of inclement weather, students should visit www.mi.mun.ca for important announcements regarding class cancellations and rescheduling. Announcements regarding class cancellations will also be on local radio stations.
If you are eligible to receive a T2202A for tax purposes, they will be available on Short Course Registration in February of the following year. Students are advised to log into your Destiny account in order to print a copy of your T2202A form.
