Course Description

This course is the third in a suite of industrial fire courses and is a continuation from the Advanced Exterior Industrial Fire Team Member course. The course is designed to enable the student to understand the role of a member of an industrial fire team for interior structural firefighting and to demonstrate the practical aspects of interior fire suppression. This course reflects the requirements outlined in the NFPA 1081, 2018 edition Standard for Facility Fire Brigade Member Professional Qualifications. This standard, in part, identifies the minimum job performance requirements for interior structural industrial fire team member.

Learning Outcomes

  • To interpret and appraise the characteristics of an interior structure fire.
  • To examine the differences between rollover, flashover and backdraft.
  • To identify the principles of thermal layering within a structure.
  • To identify and describe building components and their relationship to fire suppression.
  • To demonstrate forcible entry into a structure.
  • To explain each way ventilation can be achieved and the advantages and limitations of each.
  • To demonstrate ventilation techniques with selected tools and environments.
  • To apply the strategies on how to attack an interior structure fire.

Marine Institute approved medical clearance;
