Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge at the management level as a senior Deck officer to plan and ensure safe loading, stowage, securing and care during the voyage and unloading cargoes. Specifically the course provides participants with the knowledge to apply relevant international regulations, codes and standards concerning the safe handling, stowage, and securing of cargoes; knowledge of loading and unloading operations with special regard to the transport of cargoes identified in the Code of Safe Practice for Cargo Stowage and Securing; ability to establish and maintain effective communications during loading and unloading; knowledge of tanker and bulk carrier operations; and, knowledge of precautions to be taken in the carriage of dangerous, hazardous and harmful cargoes.

This course is supported by a learning management system called BRIGHTSPACE (formally Desire2Learn  or D2L). This web-based application will allow you to access all your course materials and communicate with your instructor and your classmates. The examination must be written with Transport Canada.
