Course Description

This course enables radio station personnel, ashore and afloat, operating in accordance with the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) to utilize efficiently aspects of the GMDSS communications matrix operations. In addition, this course adheres to the fundamental recommendations fortraining of maritime radio personnel as outlined in the International Maritime Organization’s Resolution A.769(18).

Learning Outcomes

  • To help students understand the basic features of the maritime/aeronautical mobile service. 
  • To provide students with the knowledge to operate the basic ship’s station equipment. 
  • To use the English language, both written and spoken, for the satisfactory exchange of communications relevant to the safety of life at sea. 
  • To help students relate the theoretical knowledge of the GMDSS to practical communications procedures.
