202314 - Shipboard Helicopter Firefighting and Rescue Course
Course Description
This course is designed to develop the skills necessary to perform helideck firefighting and rescue operations in the event of a helicopter emergency on or near a Canadian Coast Guard ship equipped with a helideck or winching area.
Learning Outcomes
- To enable participants to identify the major components of helicopters.
- To provide participants with the knowledge required to properly use helideck rescue and fire safety equipment.
- To provide participants with the ability to perform helideck rescue and firefighting operations in simulated helicopter emergencies.

STCW'95 Basic Safety (or Equivalent)
Marine Institute Approved Medical Clearance Marine Institute
Approved Respirator Fit Testing
Notes
To comply with Provincial OH&S legislation the OSSC requires all students participating in this course to be clean shaven and must provide a fit test certificate (quantitative) for use of Scott AV 3000 style face piece. Fit testing for this training can be completed at the OSSC. Please note that there is a fee associated for this service of $65 plus tax.
Please bring a change of clothes and a towel daily for practical sessions. Dress for prevailing weather conditions. **NO WARM CLOTHING WILL BE PROVIDED**
Please be advised that the OSSC daily course schedules are subject to change and all participants should be prepared for course deliveries outside normal business hours (i.e. evenings and weekends). You will be notified if any such change is necessary. In the event of inclement weather, students should visit www.mi.mun.ca for important announcements regarding class cancellations and rescheduling. Announcements regarding class cancellations will also be on local radio stations.
If you are eligible to receive a T2202A for tax purposes, they will be available on Short Course Registration in February of the following year. Students are advised to log into your Destiny account in order to print a copy of your T2202A form.
