Course Description

This is an entry-level course that will provide participants with basic knowledge and skills in oil spill response.

Learning Outcomes

  • Enable the student to participate safely as a member of an oil spill response team.
  • Show the student the impact and consequences of marine oil spills.
  • Acquaint the student with facilities and organizations responsible for responding to marine oil spills.
  • Train the student in common oil spill cleanup strategies and techniques.
  • Provide the student with practical, hands-on experience in operating marine oil spill containment and recovery equipment.

Please be advised that daily course schedules are subject to change and all participants should be prepared for course deliveries outside normal business hours (i.e. evenings and weekends). You will be notified if any such change is necessary. In the event of inclement weather, students should visit www.mi.mun.ca for important announcements regarding class cancellations and rescheduling. Announcements regarding class cancellations will also be on local radio stations.

If you are eligible to receive a T2202A for tax purposes, they will be available on Short Course Registration in February of the following year. Students are advised to log into your Destiny account in order to print a copy of your T2202A form.
