Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge to monitor the loading, stowage, securing, and care of cargo during the voyage and the unloading of cargoes at the operational level as a watchkeeping Deck Officer. Specifically the course provides participants with the knowledge of the effect of cargo including heavy lifts on the seaworthiness and stability of the ship; knowledge of safe handling, stowage and securing of cargoes including dangerous, hazardous and harmful cargoes and their effect on the safety of life and of the ship; ability to establish and maintain effective communications during loading and unloading; and, Basic knowledge of the content and application of SOLAS Chapters VI, VII and XII.

This course is supported by a learning management system called BRIGHTSPACE (formally Desire2Learn  or D2L). This web-based application will allow you to access all your course materials and communicate with your instructor and your classmates. 

Examination must be written with transport Canada.
